What Makes Us Tick? Religion?

There are many types of views out there in the world, but there is one type that has caused a lot of controversy in the past and present. Religious views have caused much fuss in the world. Religion seems to always be involved in some type of law, war, or cultural imbalance. But what is the big deal about religion? Why are so many people concerned about religious views and not just their own views, but other people’s views as well? Well first we need to define religion. Religion is “A belief in and worship of a God or other superhuman agency” (You could also say “Particular system of beliefs”).

Now the interesting thing about religion is many try to claim that they either are not religious or do not believe in a religion. I would claim that to be ironic, because I think all men not only believe in a religion, but also are religious. The human race is very religious indeed. The reason I say that is because all people do believe in a “god” of some sort. Now you may say, but I don’t believe in God. Well you have a poor understanding of what a “god” really is. A “god” is simply defined as “Any person or object that is adored or admired”. Therefore we need to be aware that a “god” can be anything for any individual. You may say well I don’t worship anything, well try again because all people worship something whether it be God, football, science, art, hobbies, girlfriend, boyfriend, spouse, etc. You name it and I bet someone is worshipping it. And so we must understand that these “gods” have control over us. They dictate some, if not all, of our actions.

Why do all men have these “gods”? Because they are what gives us our purpose. They explain why we were created. We live because we believe in these “gods”. We love and care for them. We see beauty in them. We must understand that religion is not just a building or a book. Religion is in the hearts of men because we have meaning when we love and admire these “gods”. Our “gods” allow us to live for something. All men have a religion. Even the atheist who says that there is no God. Because that atheist has a reason to live and is passionate something (Maybe the fact that he doesn’t believe in a God).

So I say all of that to say this, that we live because we believe in a certain religion and we base our lives around our beliefs. What the most important things to us are our “gods” because they control the way we act and shape most of our lives. Purpose and faith are something that all people have in common whether they realize it or not. And the questions we are faced with usually deal with “What our purpose is?” and “What are we putting our faith in?”. Ultimately it boils downs to “What makes us tick?”. And this is the heart of the controversy. Because we have been debating over the answer to this question for centuries. That being whether or not if all answers are correct or if there is only one answer to this question.

Blogs.. What are They Good For?

Well here we go... I have decided to start a blog, but before I begin I would like to take some time and answer a few questions that might be on some of the minds that find the time to read this:

Why should I blog and what am I going to blog about? Glad you asked... I have thought about this for a few months and I have decided on doing a blog that isn't all about me... what I mean by that is some people treat a blog almost as a public journal... I do not want that what I would like to see is a blog that is about what I am interested in and enjoy. These will range from books to things I am reading in the Word to computer stuff to big news to random theological topics to board games (yeah I know kinda random). So hopefully this will be more than just what I had for breakfast yesterday or why I think the sky is blue. I would like to see this blog as stirring up minds on topics that effect us in our day to day lives.

Now that I have covered what I am going to be blogging about there are two natural questions that come to mind. The first is "Well why would you want to write about that?". The reason is because I enjoy those things (and this blog is about my life and what makes me tick) and that is what I fill my time with and if I am going to "blog" then I want to "blog" about things that I enjoy and like. The second question is "Why on earth should you read this blog?". Very good, and more difficult, question. I would hope that there were some people in the world who did care about my me enough to take 5 or 10 minutes out of their week to read this (although there aren't many). However, it might just be helpful for you. You could find some things in this blog to be encouraging or interesting, you might even learn some new interesting fact that you have never learned before... whatever the case may be I hope that there would be at least one person out there who finds what I type to be... well something (i.e. important, interesting, helpful, sweet, insightful, stupid, funny, ridiculous, tragic, creative, or any other adjective that I have left out).

The point is I think blogging is good. Not just to keep in touch with your friends after you graduate, but to help others personally. Whether it be informing others or giving out some new thoughts on certain topics, and issues. Blogs are more than just public diaries they are well crafted and thoughtful pieces of information that can inspire people to think and act in a different way and because of that I am going to begin my own blog. I do not plan to post something every single day. However, I would like to post something weekly. So that is all I have to say for the moment... Until next time.
